Biographical Info

The Historical Society was incorporated in 1964.  This society’s purpose is to discover and collect any material which may help to establish or illustrate the history of the area:  its’ exploration, settlement, development, and activities in peace and in war; its’ progress in population, wealth, education, arts, science, agriculture, manufacturers, trade and transportation. It will collect printed material and material objects illustrative of life, conditions, events, and activities of the past and present.  The society will provide for the preservation of such material and for its’ accessibility through the Granville County Museums which are administered by the society.

The society will promote the preservation of historic buildings, monuments, and markers relative to the history of Granville County.  The society will disseminate historical information by publishing historical material, by holding meetings, lectures, and open houses.

The society enjoys a membership of over four hundred people from all over the country.  Membership fees are $25.00 annually (and operate on a calendar year) for individuals, $40.00 for couples, $75.00 for companies and $300 for a lifetime membership. The membership’s benefits are to receive newsletters about the society’s and the museum’s museums activities, occasional special exhibit previews, two open houses for members only, and an annual dinner meeting, and a 10% discount in the Harris Hall Gift Shop
